EDUCATION
CT REAL ESTATE LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
The Real Estate Division of the CT Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) administers a professional licensing and enforcement process to assure that only qualified, competent persons are licensed in the real estate and real estate appraisal professions.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
REAL ESTATE AGENT CANDIDATES:
Must provide evidence from an approved school of successfully completing:
- REAL ESTATE PRINCIPLES & PRACTICE 60 Hours
Submit one 60-hour course or two 30-hour Principles & Practices course certificates provided the first 30-hour course was completed no earlier than 10/1994. Please include the ORIGINAL
certificate(s) (no photocopies) for each course completed. Grade Letters must contain: (a) School Name and School Code, (b) Dates Attended, (c) Hours Completed, (d) Grade Received, and (e) Signature of School Official.
- Pass the state exam with a grade of 70%
REAL ESTATE BROKER CANDIDATES:
I. REAL ESTATE PRINCIPLES & PRACTICES 60 Hours
Submit one 60-hour course or two 30-hour Principles & Practices course certificates provided the first 30-hour course was completed no earlier than 10/1994. If you received your RE Salespersons’
license between 10/1/94 and 10/1/2004 then you only need 30 hours of P&P. If you received your sales license prior to 10/1/94 then you need the full 60 hours.
II. REAL ESTATE APPRAISAL (I, PRINCIPLES, PROCEDURES) 30 Hours Mandatory
III. RELATED SUBJECT IN REAL ESTATE 30 hours Elective
IV. LICENSED AS SALESPERSON AT LEAST 2 YEARS
Please include the ORIGINAL certificates (no photocopies) for all courses completed. Grade Letters must contain: (a) School Name and School Code, (b) Dates Attended, (c) Hours Completed, (d) Grade Received, and (e) Signature of School Official.
- Pass the state exam with a grade of 75%
REAL ESTATE APPRAISER CANDIDATES:
The process of becoming an appraiser differs according to the various appraisal disciplines for a Licensed, Certified Residential or Certified General appraiser. Effective January 1, 2008 the Appraisal Qualifications Board (AQB) of The Appraisal Foundation established minimum criteria for state licensed/certified real property appraisers.
